"All we are saying. . . "

(Los Alamitos, 11/15/10)The first meeting after the election where the first place finisher was a soft spoken engineer who beat out an established incumbent with deep pocketed supporters.

Maybe it’s time for the majority to reach out to those who have opposed them. . . and vice versa.

We’ll get a first glimpse tonight at 7 p.m.  Click here for a summary of the agenda and links.

Whether you watch it in person or at home on LosAlTV3, live or taped, you, the people, get to be the reporters and commentators.

Your observations and thoughts are welcome here, regardless of your viewpoint, as long as you stay fairly diplomatic and keep the language family friendly.

Also,  please report what it is you’re commenting on first–not everyone saw it, and even if they did, they didn’t necessarily see what you saw.

  1. Los Al resident says:

OK, Dave here’s your first report on tonight city council meeting:

Per the city attorney at the city council meeting tonight. The city of Los Alamitos is going to defend the action brought by the Citizens for a Fair Trash Contract. The trash company that won the bid, CDS is going to pay to defend the city so the city will not incur any cost.

Gee, what happened?? I thought per Edgar this was only an election “hail Mary” and per Poe and CM Jeff Stewart It will go away after the election. What happened, don’t tell me it wasn’t just an election ploy?? Fancy that!!

    • Dave Emerson says:

Thanks to Los Al resident for reporting on last night’s meeting. Anybody else see anything worthy of reporting?

As for the news that Consolidated Disposal wants to fund the city’s defense of the law suit, I think that’s just a smart business decision to make sure they have the best legal Council their projected six million dollar overcharge of you & me can buy!

  2. Los Al resident says:

Edgar said in his council comments that he supports the tax increase for the secondary treatment of the solid wastes sewage. This is the same tax increase that the CPLA/LATA accused Ken Parker of voting for when he ran for city council in 2006.
Of course CPLA/LATA did not put out a hit piece on Edgar like they did on Parker, because Edgar is not on the hate list of Chuck Sylvia.

More evidence of the double standard by CPLA/LATA.

  3. To Troy/Chuck... says:

Lies always catch up with the liars!!!!

  4. Los Al resident says:

Thanks Dave, for pointing out the fact that hit piece’s on Council member Mejia was also for the same “support” of a fee increase that Edgar is supporting.
I would also like to point out that Edgar was asked about this at a council meeting before the election and he stayed silent.
Now that the election is over he can speak freely because the residents have already voted.

It never ceases to amaze me the depth of “Weasledom” that Edgar will go to in order to get elected. At least Parker is a man, he explain why the secondary treatment was important to everyone. He voted for it and said why, Edgar continued to hide it until after the election.

I hope all of the voters are happy with their choice of Edgar back on the council. If you want to know what he will be like while he continues to lead the city just look at Chuck Sylvia. Edgar is Sylvia in the making. If you like Sylvia you will like Edgar.

  5. Julie says:

    @Los Al Resident.

You can follow the court case online by going to the Orange County Superior courts. Click Civil cases. Put in the Number of the Case which Dave or I can post and you can follow what papers have been filed and who will be defending Poe, Edgar, and Stephens.
Maybe I have not been watching enough but seeing Zarkos excuse himself out of Conflict of interest and having the City Attorney explain was a real mile stone for this majority.

    Julie and All:
you can read the lawsuit on the OC Superior court web site OR you can go to:

  7. disgusted says:

The last line above sounds like a mix of 1984, Catch 22 and Alice in Wonderland.

Is the trash company also paying the city’s bill ?

How can the defendants now even fake the appearance of independence.

  8. JM Ivler says:

What the Los Al Council Majority WISHED they could do…

The case highlighted complaints by critics who claim Singapore uses criminal defamation laws to silence them.

“This sentence is yet another blow against freedom of expression in Singapore,” said Phil Robertson, deputy director of Human Rights Watch in Asia. “Sadly, it comes as no surprise, given the long history of the authorities in Singapore using the courts to silence vocal critics of government policies and personnel.”

The government says any statement that damages the reputations of its leaders will hinder their ability to rule effectively.

Prosecution lawyer Hema Subramaniam said Shadrake had shown “a complete lack of good faith in making these allegations against the judiciary”.

Shadrake was arrested July 18 and freed on bail two days later. A criminal defamation investigation against him is still pending.

  9. Dee says:

I am not a Poe fan by any means.

After watching the council comments at the Nov 15 cc meeting I am going to comment on Edgar’s thoughts about Poe’s knowing the people in the black and white pictures for the 50th anniversary that is ongoing in Los Al.

Mr. Edgar, you said it was “weird” that she could point out people she knew in the pictures.

I don’t find that weird at all. She is almost 70 and was raised here, why would that be weird??

History of her city is important to Poe and I commend her for that.

If you were not a carpetbagger you might get that also. Do you have roots anywhere? if not then I understand why you would find that weird.

  10. JM Ivler says:

“There was no conspiracy to hide anything,” Hall said. “I asked Shawn if he was cool [working on other land deals]. He said he was bulletproof.”

In all, Boyd received $123,800 in payments from Hall that continued through last month, according to the court documents. The portion of that over $104,000 is from periods outside the time of Boyd’s questioned votes

    Classic.

  11. Lawsuit says:

Just read the [Los Al trash] lawsuit again. Where can you find updates on the case?

Also, I find it hard to believe that are existing council (Poe, Stephens and Edgar) can even sit up on the dais and look anyone in the eye.

If any of you have not read the lawsuit, you really should. It spells out exactly how our city has been run for the last 3 decades and it’s factual not the crap Sylvia and company have spread.

Everyone notice the crickets around here. There’s a reason!

  12. Dave Emerson says:

    @ Film:

Details on Shawn Boyd, Seal Beach City Council Member 5/98 – 5/02, prosecuted by the D.A. for a conflict of interest in voting on issues relating to the Seal Beach Trailer Park while receiving income from the Trailer Park’s owner.

From the OC DA’s website (link # 2 above):

    People vs. Shawn Boyd:

The Special Prosecutions Unit prosecuted Seal Beach City Councilman Shawn Boyd for felony conflict of interest. This was based on his business ties to a developer who sold real estate to Seal Beach at a $4 million profit. Boyd pleaded guilty and paid over $25,000 in fines and was barred forever from holding public office in California.

The first link above is to a 7 page Fair Political Practices Commission exhibit regarding the stipulation, judgment, and order issues in the case.

Interesting case, although the details are different. I’m not aware of any connection between Boyd and Briggeman, Republic, or Consolidated, other than connections through the OC Republican establishment. “Film,” could you enlighten us further on that?

    Thanks for the interesting links.

What goes around comes around. I am sure you all live in glass houses. I hope sheriden is part of your legal council because that should guarantee you fate. Good luck

  14. @ Worked Up says:

You did read the lawsuit didn’t you? Do you live in Los Al? Aren’t you concerned about how business is conducted in our city?

I see, who ever has the most money wins!

    Karma baby!

Let’s wait see who wins this one.

Unfortunately, this city has been losing for years.

Notice how this city has failed to progress throughout the Chuckie, Bates and Poe era’s as all the other cities around us continue to flourish and take our tax dollars.

Why has our little city been so lost and without a plan for so many years?

Why??? Because our leaders (above) were letting it get sucked dry (can you say: “City of Bell”).

All of you people have got to get a clue!

The trash contract like so many other decisions made by these so called leaders have done nothing for the city but, made the good old boys rich.

Seriously, who benefited the most from this last trash contract?

Why can these other lower bidding companies be successful in other cities but, they are not good enough for Los Al?

Why was so much money spent this election and last election when this wasn’t the case ever? TRASH MONEY MAYBE (DUH!)!

This city is full of some sorry excuses for citizens!

A bunch of people that complain but, don’t show up to support the real citizens of this city.

  15. Film at 11:00 says:

    @ Dave

No conections between Boyd and the Briggeman/CDS group (that are known)…just merely pointing out what happens to greedy politicians when they dirty themselves with poor decisions and poluted voting records. This guy is a carbon copy of Troy. The similarites are endless. Maybe you could do a side by side photo of the two.

  16. @ Worked Up says:

I really don’t know why anyone would support Poe, Bates or Sylvia when there is so little evidence (none really) of how they helped this city progress or how they put our city in a position to flourish.

These are leaders that had and now have multiple terms at the helm of our city for the last 25-30 years.

They left us all with no thought for future traffic solutions, very little tax revenue ideas and a lot of decisions that should have been acted upon years ago and now we are too late to act.

Seriously, this community is strong and desirable for the most part because of the schools.

Troy Edgar is the same leader as the rest of these bums. He spends money on negative campaigning to get elected. Plays favorites in hiring a trash company that he took money from and his big idea is to try EMINENT DOMAIN on the corner of Katella and Los Al Blvd. and take Rossmoor’s tax revenue from them.

This guy is on his second term. In eight years we’re still going to be asking the question: What has this guy done for eight years?
