At last night’s city council meeting the Mayor made the announcement that through the efforts of the City Manager we will have another dinner food truck location. It seems they will be parking in the U S Bank lot and will be able to eat on the benches at St. Isidore. I’m curious to know the benefits to Los Alamitos.

Will it help lure new business’s to the plethora of empty stores? Will it bring in any new sales taxes? Will it bring in patrons to the local food related businesses? I believe the answer to these questions is no. What it will do is bring more traffic and congestion to Katella. What it will do is bring in more transient population for a few hours.

I don’t think those in charge of giving it the city stamp of approval thought this through. And that leads me to wonder…who did give it the OK, and under what authority? Oh, yes, and who runs the risk of liability when a customer gets sick?

  2. Food truck question says:

was the food truck idea vetted through the planning commission? Does it need to be vetted at all.
Why is it going to be next to one of the busiest intersections in Orange County at 5 PM?

It is a good idea , but may be in the wrong place.

We went to the din din a go go on Winners Circle last night, the food was pretty good. I called city hall to ask where it was going to be held because of the latest proposed changes (it wasn’t real clear). They said that there is now going to be 2 of these gatherings. The Tuesday evening event will continue on Winners Circle. The new one, that the city manager has arranged, will be at US Bank/St. Isadores on Thursday evenings. I always remember cities, in the past, complaining about these gatherings because there is no sales tax that the city can receive, the lack of a city business license and how it takes away revenue from our local food establishments. I’m wondering if any of these issues have been resolved/negotiated that will benefit the city. I would love to see an updated story on this issue and the pros/cons of how having 2 of these events in Los Al will help our town economy.

I got this report on Tuesday’s meeting via e-mail from one individual who was there:

It was a love fest, no fighting. The meeting was over in 45 minutes.

But then the Council comments took about another 45 minutes. Edgar loves to talk, Stephens also did some updates about different events he had to go to.

It was a un eventful meeting, except Edgar managed to get in a comment about how some of the up front money from the trash contract went to the employees in the form of their new contract.

In other words if the Citizens for a Fair Trash Contract win their lawsuit and the trash contract is reversed it will be the Citizens fault. Never mind that they have imposed a 6.5 million tax to help the employees.

As for the food trucks, it will start off just once a month, on Thursday 5-8 or something like that, so it is apparently in addition to the weekly Tuesdays on Winners Circle. It appears that they are doing it to help St Isadores. They said people could sit on the patio to eat then go to Starbucks for coffee. One once a month till they see how it goes.

One concern would be congestion at 5 pm on that busy corner. The trucks are great, and if we could get some sales tax even better, but not with more congestion. Also what will the restaurants think about it? They sure are popular all over OC and LA county.

You forgot about Troy’s closing statements where he stated that he refuses to offer a public apology for his comments directed at Rossmoor and the Rossmoor Predator Management Team. Apparently he can make these statements and do this damage publicly but, he wants to discuss this with the involved parties privatly. The unfortunate part is that he made these statements, from the dias, acting as a city official on our behalf. A public apology is warranted from him for his blunder on behalf of the city and it’s citizens that he claims to represent. The offended parties still want the apology. Even though he may be frustrated and have a personal opinion about it, that doesn’t give him the luxury to lash out like he did as a public official from the dias. He should have exercised better judgement, professionalism and good will towards our neighbors in Rossmoor. They, at this point, have done nothing to us to warrant his verbal thrashing of them.

I agree with everything the previous poster said.. Unfortunately Edgar has always used his political position to his advantage. He is very immature and it shows almost every time he has a rant. He lacks character and ethics, he is leaving a trail of thoughtful people he has completely disrespected in the name of his polices. He probably doesn’t think a thing of it.

Everything that goes up must come down, only a matter of time
