(4/14/00 by Dave Emerson)  Last night’s Los Alamitos City Council closed session ended with no reportable action on selecting a City Manager or on the ongoing negotiations with mid-level managers.

Is the majority working hard to address Gerri’s concerns?

Did they want to give Dean Zarkos some time to get up to speed before taking a vote?

Did Dean or someone else bring up something nobody had thought of before?

Did the Council deadlock?

Did they make an offer to someone, and now are waiting for him or her to respond?

Your guess is as good as mine!

My guess is the voted to have the city attorney commence negotiations with someone on a 4 – 1 vote, with Gerri against.  I’m also guessing that individual is current Gardena City Manager Mitch Lansdell,  who I’m told once worked in Los Alamitos’ Recreation Department.

Mitch did a good job getting Gardena out of a big financial hole, but part of his solution was luring the Hustler Casion to town with tax breaks.   On the other hand, you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do.  Lansdell was chosen by  American City & County Government Magazine as the 2007 Municipal Leader of the year.

What troubles me most about all this is the ongoing secrecy.   The public can be kept informed even if specific names aren’t included.  Just because you can have a closed session doesn’t mean you have to keep all the discussion behind  closed doors, nor does it mean you can’t put out a summary report.

At least that’s what I think.  But I’m just one of over 7,000 registered voters in Los Alamitos.  I’d love to hear what you think.  You know the rules.

Mitch Lansdale was later assistant CM before he left to go to Gardena. He did a great job in Los Al and was highly thought of at that time. Remember Dave, Gardena has had gambling for years and yet they went bankrupt.

This town is turning into Hazzard County. Boss Hogg (Briggeman-even short and fat like Boss) and Roscoe P. Coltrain (Troy – the crooked Sherrif (mayor) who railroads people).

What’s next Boss and Roscoe? Strip Mining Los Alamitos? A Dump and a Fixed Trash Contract? I’m bettin’ on the later two. It’s Time for the Duke Family (Citizens) to devise a plan and fight back.

    LMAO hahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, Your funny!

Too bad for us your right and funny.

Did anybody notice how quickly Lisa jumped on the Mitch Lansdale thing?

    Welcome Mitch! Are you insane?

Hey Lisa, in May of 2008 Bob Dominguez retired as as Placentia’s city administrator. Why not bring good old Bob back. He was real useful to Bates, I’m sure he would be just as good for Edgar.

    Good Call!
Let’s bring Mitch back. He can get together with Doc Allred and the Casino Gang in Hawaiin Gardens and open up a casino in Los Al. Sound familiar!? I wouldn’t be suprised. Mitch brings in the thugs and our leaders line their pockets! With the lack of leadership and their very broken moral compasses, I can see them salivating now. Briggeman will be happy about it because the casino will keep the heat off of him and his dump/trash contract. Stay tuned.

Why are you jumping on someone who we do not know if he will come here at all? Mitch is a class act, which is more than what I can say for some of the trash on this website.

Poor Lisa, can’t get her message heard above the din of people who disagree with it, so she attacks the people she disagrees with. Hey, Lisa, don’t forget to call us all Nazi’s and tell everyone that we are worse than Hitler.

To Los Al Citizen / Lisa

Thanks for your insightful, informative and just gosh darn helpful posts:

That’s the dumbest idea yet from you. Logically you start with those who received votes, not with those who received none. Troy voted for someone who he did not nominate, why was it Gerri wouldn’t do the same? Why didn’t she see Yee the way you did? Troy didn’t wait for the second round to do it either? Maybe your great councilwoman who you think can do no wrong DID WRONG?

You sure know how to make friends and influence people. Your endorsement of Mitch [Lansdale] rings hollow and lacks credibility for me since you have proven yourself to be a “class act” in a negative sort of way.

You might consider setting up your own “Let’s Sell Out Los Alamitos for Smart People Only” blog so the rest of your “trashy” and “dumb” neighbors and fellow citizens can post their opinions and concerns here in peace without your attacks. You can restrict your blog to let only those who are smart, not trashy and agree with your viewpoints/opinions post their messages, folks such as Merry Moon, Larry Looper, Marty Sherwood, Robert et al.

ps – Gerri Mejia is your Council Member too, and Mr. Edgar, Ms. Poe, and Mr. Stephens are our Council Members.

Lisa: A quick history lesson on card clubs and how city’s decisions have long term effects:

20 years ago Gardena had a monopoly on card clubs in socal. The 6 clubs were highly regulated with many stupid rules such as no alcohol and each club had to close one day a week.

Unfortunately for Gardena but great for card players the Bell Club opened in Bell Gardens with 7/24 service, alcohol in the club and did away with many other stupid restrictions.

Almost overnite Gardena was done. Commerce, the Bicycle Club and all that followed sealed Gardenas fate. Gardena went broke because it lost 99% of its gambling businesss.

Likewise Los Al can get in trouble by its new reputation as the home of racism and sexting. This council needs to work first on this citys reputation and then on getting some tax paying businesses.

I almost fell out of my chair when 2 citizens, including Mrs. Silva, actually got up to say Dean Grose should be re-nominated. I can only assume that they have no idea of the damage that has been done both by Mr Grose and by the Councils lack of respose/condemnation

    Some good news for Los Alamitos;

The suspect wanted for the murder of his Los Alamitos Grandmother, is now in custody.

Joker–That is good news. Last thing I heard they thought he’d fled to Mexico. Kudos to los Al’s finest for getting their man!

    Who is Jeff Stewart?

Why the sudden departure from el segundo?

Did Betray Edggar and Dean Derrlith not conduct a background check?

Jeff Stewart held several El Segundo posts. El Segundo’s top city administrator quit Wednesday, leaving behind an $178,000 annual salary and no public explanation for his departure.

Jeff Stewart announced his resignation in an afternoon e-mail to city staffers, but gave no specific reason for ending his three-year stint at the city’s helm.

Looks like a former El Segundo city manager has landed at the helm of Rosemead, reports Daily Breeze sister paper the Pasadena Star-News. As you might remember, former top executive Jeff Stewart bailed from El Segundo rather abruptly last April, offering no public explanation.

The Rosemead City Council offered Stewart an interim leadership spot after firing its old city manager Tuesday.
The newly elected body said voters in the March 3 election wanted the old executive out. Rosemead offered Stewart a $200,000 in annual salary, a pretty sweet raise from the $178,374 base pay he earned in El Segundo.

… any truth to the rumors?

    http://www.insidesocal.com/sgvgov/2009/03/new-city-manager-in-covina.html

Rumor is Rosemead is going to hire a guy who is accused of fondling women at his
previous City Manager job in El Segundo.
