(8/30/2010, Los Alamitos)  For the past  week the Register‘s Sports Section has been counting down the County’s 25 top varsity football teams.

Today #s 3 & 4 were revealed, with perennial powerhouse Mater Dei coming in at # 4, just behind our own perennial football powerhouse, the Los Alamitos Griffins!

According to the Register, Los Al Coach John Barnes thinks this could be hisbest team since 2004 team, which made it all the way to the CIF-SS Division 1 championship game.

We’re told to expect big things from running back Nick Richardson,  best in the county last year, and junior quarterback Dylan Lagarde, who transferred in from Long Beach Poly last season.

And let’s not forget our very big and very smart senior offensive lineman, Ben Wysocki, who was smart enough to commit to my alma mater, UCLA for next year.  (Click here to become a Facebook fan of the UCLA Spirit Squad–I’m told the site’s about to be updated for the Fall Quarter).

Wondering who’s ranked ahead of Los Al?

It won’t be in your paper until tomorrow morning, but I’ll bet you dinner at Preveza that # 2 is Mission Viejo and preseason #1 right is Servite. [Limited to first person to pick correctly the # 1 and # 2 team in a comment below in the event my prediction is wrong.  Like that's going to happen!  Just ask my. . . uh . . . grandkids.]

As always, your thoughts and comments are welcome.
