(5/18/09, Los Alamitos, by Dave Emerson)  If you want to catch a glimpse of two of Los Alamitos’ civic treasures,  set your DVR to record John Underwood’s Backstory on Los Al TV 3 this week.

This week’s show features one of the more amazing people you’ll ever meet:  A 78 year old musician who’s still teaching in a middle school!  (To give some perspective, I’m a pretty energetic guy who was still a Scoutmaster in my 50s, but I was getting too old to teach Middle School before I turned 30!  And Band is probably the most challenging subject around for active 13-year-olds.)

If you have cable or Fios and live in Rossmoor or Los Alamitos, you can catch Backstory Friday night through Sunday, 6/21 at 7 p.m. on LosAlTV3.   If you’re settng your DVR, it’s a half hour.k

As always, your comments are welcome, as long as they’re expressed diplomatically.

Thanks for the viewing tip, Dave. I saw Mr. Wackerman and the McAuliffe Jazz Band at their annual outdoor concert this year and was blown away! I have no connection with the band or the school, but the goodness of Mr. Wackerman’s work is obvious to all who experience the music. The poise and dedication of the young people in the band is inspiring. You can read about the concert and see a picture at SBD.
