(Los Alamitos, 1/19/2012)  These tips were posted on the Los Al P.D.’s blog shortly after yesterday’s attack. They’re good advice for all of us, even here in “Mayberry:”

The following are some general personal safety tips:

• Be aware of your surroundings. Headphones and other distractions divert your attention and you may not hear or notice persons approaching you.

• Trust your intuition. If you feel threatened or Read more

(Los Alamitos, 1/20/2012, adapted from Los Al P.D.)  If you were near Bloomfield just north of Katella or Sausalito (aka Briggeman) west of Los Al Blvd. between 2:45 and 3:05 yesterday afternoon, you may have some information that could help solve three robberies.

Last night at 10:28 p.m. Los Alamitos Unified School District Superintendent Sherry Kropp broadcast an e-mail to most Los Alamitos U.S.D. parents with the surprising news that ”there were three strong-armed robberies this afternoon” of four  students on their way walking home from our High School.

Busted! Because a resident called Dispatch. Details below.

Thursday morning update (1/12):  Just got another e-mail this morning about a break-in to a work truck parked in a Rossmoor driveway between 2 and 4 Wednesday morning.  Details in comment # 3 below.

(1/11/2011, Los Alamitos)Lately I seem to be getting about one report every day of a local home or car burglary either in Los Alamitos or Rossmoor. Not sure what’s going on, but there is no substitute for neighborhood vigilance. For example, today a man in a white van dropped off some guys in Apartment Row, and Read more

(Los Alamitos, 12/30/2011) From Los Alamitos Police:    Los Alamitos has seen an increase in catalytic converter thefts in recent weeks.

Catalytic converters are an essential part of your vehicle’s exhaust system, but they are being targeted by thieves who are intent on cashing in on the metals these parts possess.

Higher profile pick-ups and sport utility vehicles are especially susceptible due to the easier access to these vehicle parts. Toyotas are often targeted, but other Read more

(Los Alamitos, 11/10/11) by Highlands Guy: Over the last year I have read a number of Let’s Fix Los Al posts from a bunch of disgruntled local folks in Rossmoor and Los Alamitos. Their comments revolved around an increase in crime, traffic, noise and air pollution, and any semblance to the area’s former small town ambiance.

It’s not rocket science, this is Read more

(Los Alamitos, 11/4/11)  Sadly, in the midst of the sorrow over the sudden loss of Brad Sheridan, the bad guys don’t take a break.

But I’ll have more up about the shenanigans at City Hall later today. . . you won’t believe what’s on Monday’s Council Agenda as a “Consent” item.

For now, an update on the bad guys in our streets, from a Read more

(9/25/2011, Los Alamitos)   I just received word of a good sized coyote “patrolling” the streets of Suburbia Estates before 7 Sunday morning.

A man walking his attempted to stare down the coyote, who just stared back.
After taking his dog home the man returned with  a baseball bat, but the coyote, who had moved down the street, still held his ground.

(9/23/2011, Los Alamitos)  First, the good news for the week of 9/11 – 16:

  • No robberies
  • No auto burglaries
  • No commercial burglaries
  • No shoplifting (at least none reported)
  • No Municipal code violations

But the we still had enough “rocket scientists,” both locals and from out of town, demonstrating their unique brand of intelligence to keep our men & women in black busy, including seven suspects who were rewarded with free rides to Los Al’s version of the “big house:”

  • Two 19 year old males who thought it would be fun to point an authentic-looking fake handgun at cars on the corner of Katella and Maple.  The bum from Lancaster  was arrested for an outstanding warrant, his buddy, a Los Al genius, was picked up for exhibiting Read more
