(12/15/2010, Los Alamitos) After almost 50% of all ballots cast were recounted on Monday, Dean Zarkos, who had requested the recount, decided to end the process.
Here are some snapshots of the process from some Los Alamitos citizens who served as observers at the recount.
E-mailed to me about 6 p.m. Monday, 12/13/2010:
Went to the Los Alamitos recount today. Started at 9 am and I left at 5:30 pm.
When we left we knew Mejia had gained a Read more

(12/12/2010, Los Alamitos)The first recount of a Los Alamitos City Council election in recent history begins at 9 a.m. Monday, 12/13/2010, & we’ve got the scoop from the Registrar of Voters and the links to live webcams and updates!
According to Registrar Neal Kelley’s office,
Visitors to our recount web pages will be able to view live video feeds of the recount room itself as well as the ballot challenge room. The ballot challenge room will be where final decisions are made on ballots that are challenged during the recount process. This will take place at 4 p.m. on each day of the recount.
Another feed gives real time status of the number of ballots counted and status by precinct.
I’m told that Dean Zarkos’ campaign has contracted with Read more

(Monday, 12/6/10, Los Alamitos) Once again it’s time for you, the observant local resident to let the community know what went on at tonight’s Los Alamitos City Council meeting, whether you were there in person or caught it live or taped on Los Al TV3.
In this economy, fewer and fewer people have cable, let alone time to watch it all, so even if you only caught a segment, let us know what went on & what your thought.
Tonight’s meeting has a heavy agenda, ranging from picking the 2011 Mayor and Mayor pro tem to pawn shops, sign ordinance, canceling the next meeting, and even a closed session on Read more

(12/5/2010, Los Alamitos) Note: This is your chance to vote on an important issue, as we’re re-instituting our reader polls at the end of this post.
As we reported here on Friday, this Monday’s City Council Agenda calls for the Council to verify the current results from last month’s election and swear in newly elected Council Members Kusumoto, Edgar, and Graham-Mejia.
Then, after presenting a certificate of appreciation to Council Member Zarkos, the new Council is scheduled to elect their Mayor and Mayor pro tem for 2011.
Even though the “Truth, Trust, and Transparency” slate apparently Read more

Vote to certify election, swearing in, & Council reorganization on Monday’s Council agenda for Monday

(12/3/2010, Los Alamitos, by Dave Emerson) If the current Los Alamitos City Council follows staff recommendations this Monday, our new City Council will be sworn in a week before the requested recount is set to begin.
That makes sense, based on the probability of a 4,000 ballot recount producing a swing of over 24 votes when OC’s 2007 recount of 30,000 ballots only resulted in a 10 vote swing.
The question of the weekend may well be if Read more

(Los Alamitos, 11/29/2010) Some have been wondering about the recount process that’s been requested in our City Council race.

(11/19/2010, Los Alamitos, CA) In case you were wondering. . . .
- Our Los Al Griffins lost a tough one Thursday night when the officials mistakenly ruled that Griffin wide receiver Richard Turner came down without the ball on what should have been the tying touchdown, as the Register photo to the right clearly indicates. (11/17/2010, Los Alamitos) Looks like about 6 more ballots were counted today, and they split evenly between Mejia and Zarkos, leaving 23 votes separating #3 Mejia from #4 Zarkos.
This batch of ballots seemed to split up their votes more, with Kusumoto gaining 2 votes, Sheridan just 1, Edgar and Schleuter just 1, but Grose 4.
