(Los Alamitos, 11/02/2002) Los Alamitos lost a great man today when Brad Sheridan suddenly collapsed at work.

An active, giving father, church member, coach, Traffic Commissioner, and community volunteer who was twice elected unanimously to be Chairperson of the Los Alamitos Traffic Commission, yet wasshockingly removed when he, acting as a concerned citizen, warned the  City Council that they were violating their own law when they selected the fifth highest bidder to be the city’s residents & businesses exclusive trash contractor.

Ironically, less than a month ago Orange County Superior Court Judge Amdrew P. Banks agreed with Sheridan when he ruled that the Council majority had, indeed “voted to break the law.”

Sadly Brad Sheridan’s  friendly, knowledgeable, caring voice, his smiles, his concern for his family & his town all abruptly taken from us physically all too soon, although his wisdom and example will be with many of us until the day we too leave the earth.

Brad passed away at work this afternoon, apparently from a heart condition.  Details, including the exact cause of death are sketchy now, so I will update this post as more information becomes available.  At 44, he was far too young to leave his wife, his daughters, his church, his friends and his community.

Sheridan ran for City Council twice, almost winning the first time (2004?), and leading a team that captured two of the three available seats in 2010 (Brad Sheridan, Gerri Graham-Mejia, and Warrren Kusumoto). (Click here for his 2010 Candidate Statement.)  However, after three expensive, deceptive  hit pieces plus deceptive phone surveys by Chuck Sylvia’s Citizens for the Preservation of Los Alamitos,  Brad failed to capture the third seat, which went to incumbent Troy Edgar.

Perhaps in his death Brad Sheridan may accomplish one thing he couldn’t in his life, getting our city officials to work together for the common good, to respect and honor those who disagree with them, and to unanimously condemn expensive, deceitful, professional hit pieces that divide our small town and slander the good names of some of our finest citizens.

Just want you to know that Mr. Sheridan really touched my heart, in a special way. He was so loving, caring, friendly, and giving. Although I was just a bank teller, in the short moments we talk and took care of business, he left a wonderful impression with me and all of our staff at Farmers and Merchants Bank.

God Bless the family in your time of sorrow. Mr Sheridan you will truly be missed, he was just like family. We Love You…..

Brad was a great guy. I knew him through my boyfriend who with his brother had been friends since childhood. Brad represented me in a workers compensation case and he took very good care of me. I still have his business card in my wallet. I’m so shocked to hear of this and my heart goes out to his family and the community he served. God Bless~
