(8/30/2010, Los Alamitos) Looks like we may have a new “Truth Detector” in Los Alamitos!

Earlier today I came across a very interesting site called LosAlTruth.com.

Somebody’s gone to an awful lot of effort to correct some of the misinformation in that expensive flyer that landed in mailboxes throughout Los Alamitos two days ago.

They have separate posts on:

  • LATA/CPLA
  • Trash
  • CVS
  • Taxes
  • Flyer Facts

I haven’t read every post in detail, but what I scanned through seemed pretty accurate.

LosAlTruth.com.

Check it out, then to let the community know your opinion,  click the “read more” here:

to tell us what you think, or to quote a part you find especially relevant. . . or inaccurate.

As always, let’s remember to keep it civil.  Try to disagree agreeably and focus on issues, not character assassination.

I recall LosAlTruth.com surfacing when LetsFix began, but gained no momentum due to the superior quality of your blog Dave? Seem to remember an associating to Mr. Ivler?

    “Oh Really,”

I believe you’re thinking of a CPLA website that was something like LetsFixLosAl-truth.com, which went out of business shortly after the 2008 election. It basically featured a copy front and back of a canceled check from Briggeman to Ken Parker during the 2004 election, proving (I guess) that Briggeman spread his money freely. It appeared as soon as we put out our “Gotcha” piece that showed how Briggeman was supplying about 90% of the Los Alamitos Taxpayer’s Association’s funding.

The point they were trying to make, of course, was that Parker had taken Briggeman money too. I doubt Ivler would have had anything to do with it.

It did feature a massive SEO misdirection campaign with numerous links put up in random comments on a variety of sites purporting to be links to my “excellent” website but actually leading to LetsFixLosAl-truth.com.

Skulduggery at it’s best. Or worst.

Obviously George Briggeman was involved, because only he would have a copy of his canceled check.

Just as he was obviously involved with the CPLA, whose website was kept in the “Briggeman” file at CA Web Design.

LosAlTruth.com appears to be more straightforward, much more detailed, and no friend of George Briggeman, from what I can tell so far.

I had NAClosal.com when Dave started letsfixlosal.com. the NAC site had forums, but they had been hacked into so I went with forums managed by a third party provider, and it sucked, so no one used it, including me, and without content the site died.

Two years ago I did also get losalnews.com with the intent that I would start an on-line newspaper about what was going on in Los Al. I even talked to Larry S. about providing content. But, things got a tad busy and even though I still own the domain and have something there, without putting together a reporting crew because I didn’t have the time, it just never took off…

Like Dave, I do remember CPLA doing some hokey “truth” site to offset the blow back from the commentary on letsfixlosal.com It was a regurgitation of the CPLA’s talking points with some PDFs or images. Lisa promoted it heavily on this site after it was released.

Hope that information (direct from Ivler) helps clear up my domain history.

I stand corrected …………. thank you!

Dave, http://www.losaltruth.com/ seems to have been updated. On the LATA piece there was a scorecard and it seems that just about anyone can make a scorecard look however they want. As long as the author gets to declare what the “important issues” are.

So JM you talk like a third party who doesn’t know about the new website or “truth” shown on it. Why not clear the secret up front … you own and manage that domain. So why not call it JM’s idea of the truth? It’s just the other side of the sizzling egg (opps, one of those on the recall list).

    Hey secret,

There is no secret. I also own and host the domain name LAHSChoir.org (and used to own and host weaverpta.org), but I can promise you that doesn’t mean that I update and maintain that site. I could tell you who updates the content of lahschoir.org, or losaltruth.com but that really isn’t my job anymore than it was CA Web Design’s to tell you that Briggeman was paying for the CPLA web stuff. I do think that it’s nice that local web designers have a chance to work on local web sites, as these people could have just as easily gone to India or Vietnam to get their sites done (at a much lower cost) or done it themselves at some low cost web site with a crappy “web site builder” software.

At last check I had 40 domains on my “clients” shared servers. Of that I have something in the area of 30 of them registered in my name (as we manage their DNS). While it’s not always done that way, it is easier for us. And as weaverpta.org shows, we have no problem transferring it when they decide to either take it on themselves or go to another service provider. If I was trying to hide my involvement as the service provider, I would have paid for the ability to hide the “ownership”, but you have to remember that I prefer transparency and openness to skulking around in the shadows.

I’ll go even further and restate what I said to Troy here. After Troy personally attacked and insulted me from the dais I quoted a line from Malone (Connery) in The Untouchables that he brought a knife to a gun fight. If anyone wants to build a web site that helps defeat Troy Edgar in this upcoming election, as long as that site is based on accurate information, I’ll do everything I can to help. From getting domains, to design, to whatever technology work they need done. And since his favorite co-conspirators (Dean and Dean) are running too, that goes for them as well. Please note the only qualification… that it must be truthful. The other side may lie, but unlike Troy and Chickie, I do have my honor.
