(Wednesday, 9/11/2013, Los Alamitos/West Orange County) Time once again for our weekly Wednesday post where you can report and comment on items of local interest for the next seven days.
I’ll kick off with my observations on our News Enterprise‘s front page, starting with another change in leadership at the Joint Forces Training Base, as outgoing Base Commander Lieutenant Colonel Susan Russell relinquished command of the Base to Brig. Gen. Keith Jones and Major Joel Armstrong.
The good news is that Armstrong, who will command the Base’s Headquarters staff, is already familiar with the Base and the community and will retain his duty as director of the Sunburst Youth Challenge Academy on the Base. And Brig. General Jones is returning as base commander after leaving that position two years ago to oversee all three Cal Guard bases. Click here for a more detailed report on the change of command by the OC Register’s Asher Klein. Click here for Shelley Henderson’s report for the OC Breeze.
Although the transfer took place over a week ago, it wasn’t reported in the Breeze until Monday. The Register article came out six days ago, and the N-E this morning. I guess that makes us last ;-(
It seems like command at the Base changes every other year, which makes continuity and keeping of verbal agreements with the community difficult, so it is nice to have a the command return to General Jones. I’m sure we can all wish General Jones & Major Armstong all the best as they assume command.
Meanwhile, back on the N-E front page. . .
Also on the front page was news of our Griffin’s Varsity Football team’s 27-0 victory last week in their opening game, with details from the N-E’s Sports Editor inside in a nice three page color “Sports Weekly.”
The only “above the fold” article on page 1 appeared to be a public relations piece from a local nonprofit. I’m all for publicizing the many worthy non profit groups in our town, and even giving them front page billing from time to time, and it’s great to have good news to report. And I’m trying to stay positive.
How about you? Nobody sees all the various media available to us, so if you see something of local interest, please report it, link to it, and/or comment on it in a comment here.
