Your Local Media post: Race on the Base deadline 8 a.m. tomorrow!
February 20, 2013 in Local Media review & reporting, News you can use, Your reporting and comments By: Dave Emerson
(Los Alamitos, 2/20/2013) It’s Wednesday, which means it’s time for our weekly post where you can report and comment on items of interest you come across in any of our local media.
I suspect there’ll be some coverage of this Saturday’s Race at the Jt. Forces Training Base, but if not you can click here for complete info (you guessed it!): RaceOnTheBase.com.
If you go there you’ll notice you’ve only got a few hours left to register for the:
- 5k Run
- 5k Walk
- 1 K Kids Run
- Jr. Reverse Triathlon
- Reverse Triathlon
- 10k Run/wheelchair/handcycle
- 10k Inline Skate
Why not register today? The weather should be perfect, a pleasant 65 high, slightly cool, with 0% chance of rain according to The Weather Channel!
Burn some calories, have a blast, run (or skate) into some old friends, & support 3 great charities, all without leaving town!!
But I digress. . . .
This is your weekly media post, where you can comment on anything of interest to your friends & neighbors in Los Al or Rossmoor in any media!
Whether it’s the News Enterprise, The Sun, The L.A. Times, L.B. Press Telegram, OC Register,, or local websites like The Los Al Patch or oc180news or the online versions of any paper, this is the place to let the community know about it & to post your perspective, all at the speed of light!
If you found it interesting, or want to comment (especially on the local weeklies, where it won’t print for a week!), put it up here.
We put this post up every Wednesday, so this is the place for things you haven’t posted yet or you note over the next 7 days.
Please briefly describe what caught your eye before commenting & please include a brief topic in place of your “name,” giving your real name or handle in the comment itself.
Dave, At the city council meeting Cory from P&R said you could register up to Friday at 4 PM for the Race at the Base.
To “a little longer:”
Thanks for the good news. I’m sure our Parks & Rec Director is more current than the website. It’s a great community event that raises money for the pool, cancer, & the Base morale fund. Plus I’ve heard a lot of positive feedback from local participants. And I can just about guarantee Los Al residents will run into (or at least see) several people they know.

Site Changes…
At the bottom of the page we have updated links (again). The BIG change is that we have expanded local press to include the press for surrounding areas, the LATV Youtube Channels as well as adding Business Resources.
In case you missed it in yesterday’s paper, here’s a link to a very interesting News-Enterprise report on the money Los Al sets aside each year to support the Chamber’s Wings, Wheels, & Rotors fund-raiser.
Editor/Reporter Ted Apodaca did some serious research and asked quesstions nobody at the Chamber Could answer.
The dirty secret nobody seems to be aware of is that while 30% of the proceeds from WWR goes to the Base’s Morale fund, the other 70% goes to the Chamber!
Why? Because the event’s designed primarily as a Chamber fund raiser, with less than a third going to the Base Morale Fund.
And the Chamber has more than enough in it’s 70% profit to reimburse the City for the extra police officers required by the event.
