Hatfields & McCoys, Now Los Alamitos & Rossmoor

[Rebecca Lara describes her husband's writing as a combination of humor and arsenic. I think there's a little satire too, but it wouldn't be funny if there wasn't some truth as well. Enjoy this week's contribution from the Rossmoor side of the Great Divide:]
(Rossmoor, 1/28/2013, by Dave Lara:) The Rossmoor Community Service District is in the process of placing a sign that reads “Rossmoor” on the corner of Los Alamitos Boulevard and Katella.
Instead of a sign, many Rossmoor Residents wanted a large cross and mirrors. It is a known fact that a cross and mirrors will chase away vampires, evil spirits and Los Alamitos Politicians.
For the past 30 years, I have kept the secret I was sworn to by an RHA Board Member. I know about the Code of Silence but I feel that it is time to bring it out in the open.
After a resident closes escrow on a home in Rossmoor and they have become an official Rossmoor Resident the following information is provided: “Don’t trust the City of Los Alamitos. We don’t like them!”
Before you feel hurt and take up arms, I must point out that the residents of Rossmoor distrust the City of Los Alamitos and their politicians. They have nothing personal against the individual residents of Los Alamitos.
Whenever Rossmoor Residents gather for a barbecue, the subject of the City of Los Alamitos frequently comes up.
Many residents watch Channel 3, the Public Access Station to keep tract of the Los Alamitos Council Meetings. Besides the sheer entertainment of politician disputes, they frequently leak out information concerning their wanting to invade the territory of Rossmoor.
Many of Rossmoor Residents have gone undercover and have secretively attended Los Alamitos City Council Meetings to gain knowledge of any pending invasion of Rossmoor’s territory.

Residents have suggested to the RHA Neighborhood Watch Program to place watch towers in the backyards of residents along Ruth Elaine Drive who can view across the enemy’s white line never to be crossed on Katella Boulevard. These residents sometimes dawned green shrubbery and camouflage hats while peering over their backyard walls with binoculars (above).
When did this dispute start? Did it start with the Hatfields and McCoys?
All I know is that a year ago, the City of Los Alamitos decided that they wanted to annex the fourth corner on Katella and Los Alamitos Boulevard. Rossmoor Residents call the corner the Fish Company Corner. The very thought that the City of Los Alamitos would be crossing the “White Line” on Katella Boulevard was more than Rossmoor Residents could tolerate.

Rossmoor Residents organized public meetings to discuss what actions could be taken against the City of Los Alamitos. These meetings were public if you knew the secret address, time and were able to give the password.
Identification cards with Rossmoor addresses had to be displayed. At the meeting, there was a discussion about bringing some muscle from Detroit and confronting the Los Alamitos City Council. It was felt that Rossmoor could make the City of Los Alamitos an offer they couldn’t refuse.
A Rossmoor Resident who is an attorney suggested that the residents of Rossmoor boycott all the businesses of Los Alamitos. He stated that the boycott would bring the City of Los Alamitos to their knees!
“Before you feel hurt and take up arms, I must point out that the residents of Rossmoor distrust the City of Los Alamitos and their politicians. They have nothing personal against the individual residents of Los Alamitos.”
Dave, There are no hurt feelings, the people of Los al distrust the city of Los al politicians too. (not all, but a few of them)
Most of the residents in Los al want the same thing the Rossmoor folks want ….to be left alone.
As far as shopping in Los al, I think residents spend more money in Seal Beach, at the Rossmoor Center than in Los al. SB certainly has more to offer.
I feel we are all one community, but seperate, if that makes sense. We share the same school district, and after school activities. We all shop in the surrounding businesses. By shopping locally, we are helping “our community” If Los Alamitos has problems, it will affect Rossmoor and Seal Beach as well, especially the school district. I frequently use the Rossmoor Car Wash, Goodyear (Coastline) for my vehicles, various busineses in the Rossmoor/Seal Beach Center, both Target, Chipotle, and many businesses in Los Alamitos, like Volcano Burger, NHC, Hoffs Hut, Ganahals etc.. the list goes on. Their should be no boycott (not that there really is)of any businesses, only support. The concern is mainly keeping any city politicians out of Rossmoor, so we can govern ourselves. I am a local boy myself, growing up living in Seal Beach. My siblings and I went to Hopkinson, Oak and Los Al High. Now I live in Rossmoor with my own family with 3 children. This truly is a wonderful place to live. Unfortunatley those bad apples (criminals) are really messing things up. I am all for identifying our neighborhood with a sign, as well as adding security cameras at each main entrance into our neighborhood. That alone could be a deterent to criminals. I refer to the saying “it takes a village to raise a child”. With that, we all need to do our part for our children and our community and surrounding community as we are all one, but seperate. Thank you.
