Warning: Deadly coyote attack, burglaries in Rossmoor

(5/24/2012, Los Alamitos. This sad news just in from the Rossmoor Predator Management Team:

A Rossmoor resident near the corner of Druid Lane and Rowena Drive in South Rossmoor has reported that a coyote attacked and killed their dog this Friday morning.

That’s not in Los Alamitos yet, but it’s getting close, especially to Rossmoor Highlands.

The coyote jumped over their fence and dragged their dog out of their garage.

REMEMBER: Coyotes have a strong sense of smell, are hunting for their young pups, will enter doggy doors and garage doors. Keep them closed and locked!

A Coyote will return to hunt in the same area once it has killed.

DO NOT LEAVE PETS OR CHILDREN OUTSIDE UNATTENDED. [ad]

Please report any coyote sightings, attacks or killings to RPMT so that we may alert governmental officials and maintain statistics.

Kudos go to the Lara & the Rossmoor Community for getting the news out so quickly!

Break-ins

The Laras have also forwaded me some sad news about recent burglaries in Rossmoor, including one apparently using a sledgehammer on Mothers’ Day:  ”Her house had been ransacked.  The must have used a sledge hammer on her two kitchen bolt locks because her kitchen door was literally busted with door frame hanging.”

The holiday weekend is an important time to practice our neighborhood watch skills, wherever you live:

  • Keep alert and report all suspicious activity to the police.
  • If a neighbor’s newspaper hasn’t been picked up by noon, toss it over their fence or move it to a hidden location.
  • If flyers, etc., are collecting on a neighbors porch move them as well.
  • Don’t tell strangers if a neighbor’s away for the weekend.
  • If you’re going to be away, have someone pick up your papers, mail, etc., leave a light and radio on, and call it in to your local police if you wish.

Upcoming Crime Seminar at Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church:

You may want to mark Tuesday, June 5 on your calendar for the Orange County Sheriff’s Department’s  Crime Seminar due to the recent burglaries in Rossmoor and  adjacent communities.

Excellent materials, charts, pictures of crimes in progress were provided at the last two such seminars

Tuesday, June 5, 2012 (6:30 p.m.-8:00 p.m.)

Even though Los Alamitos is served by our own police department, similar crimes have been reported on both sides of Los Al Blvd., so Los Alamitos residents might also want to attend.
As always, your thoughts and comments are welcome.
