(10/27/2011, Los Alamitos)  In a post this afternoon on the Register’s OC political blog, Politics Reporter Martin Wisckol noted that Long Beach Councilman Gary DeLong has raised an impressive $256,000, putting him on the National Republican Congressinoal Committee’s “On the Radar” list.

Wisckol had this to say about Troy Edgar’s chances:

It remains to be seen whether little-known businessman Troy Edgar will spend the $205,000 he’s loaned his campaign. He ranks at the bottom in terms of raising money from others, with $21,000.

But there’s a conceivable path to victory for Edgar if Read more

Los Alamitos Public Works staff installing new glass over light at Little Cottonwood Park.

Yes, we are small. Yes, we have things pretty good. Yes, we would like to think of ourselves as above the fray. But take a few steps away and look at us with just a little bigger perspective and you will realize that yep, we are just like any other city in the U.S. In reality what happens in Seal Beach, in Long Beach, in Cypress and anywhere within a 25 mile radius impacts the way we live, for good and for bad.

Obviously we do not suffer from the level of corruption associated with Bell or Chicago but perhaps that’s due to a whole lot of regular folks getting involved. We have seen “special favors” going to political supporters, just like the guys on all other levels of government. But it seems like with the Read more

(10/26/2011, Los Alamitos)  Time once again for you to tell the world what you think is imnportant in our local meeting, along with your commentary.   My News Enterprise came a lot earlier than last week, but still didn’t include my 3 week old letter about the trash judgement, nor anyone else’s letter, for that matter, although it did include both an article and a “Teditorial” on last Sunday’s Wings, Wheels, Rotors & Expo at the Base.

But there’s a whole lot more going on in our local media, and this is your

(10/25/2011)  The good news is the Lobsta Truck, with it’s amazing lobsta rolls,  has been added to this Thursday night’s  ”Picnic at the Plaza” lineup, giving us a “baker’s dozen” of 13 scheduled trucks, as listed below.

The “other good news” (no negativity here!) is that Read more

(10/25/2011, Los Alamitos) I get frustrated on the last Tuesday of every month when S & P ‘s  badly dated Case-Schiller Home Price Index is greeted breathlessly by the media, as if what happened six months ago is breaking news.

So, even though it means two real estate posts in 2 days, I’m reposting the following item from my SoCalRealEstateNews.com blog, where I put it up earlier this morning.

This will give you a  more current & more local perspective on the “breaking news” you’ll be hearing all day and reading in your “news”paper tomorrow morning.  And, I promise, I’ll have something about Los Al politics up later today!

This morning Standard & Poors reported their Case-Schiller National Housing Index for August was up a very modest 0.2% over July, but actually down 3.8% from August 2010.  Los Angeles/Orange County prices were Read more

(Los Alamitos, 10/24/2011) Dave E. here.  I just put this summary of  changes the President will be unveiling today up on my much neglected real estate blog, SoCalRealEstateNews.com, and decided to also post it here because the new program has some real potential to help homeowners who bought near the peak to regain equity.  If you know someone like that, read on, &  use the “share” button at the bottom to forward a link to them.

During his stop in Nevada today President Obama announced major changes to the Homeowner  Affordable Refinance Program (“HARP”) designed to help more homeowners refinance to today’s  lower rates even if they owe more than their home’s worth.

Here’s what we know so far:

  1. The program will now be available regardless of Read more

(10/23/2011, Los Alamitos)Note:  Our “Sunday Sermons” take a more eternal focus, and are generally written from a Jude0-Christian perspective.  You have been warned.

Last week’s  ”Sunday Sermon” served as a bit of a journal for me as I worked through some of the lessons I was learning from the tragic shootings in Seal Beach a week and a half ago.

The perspective on the fragility and uncertainty of life we all gained from that tragedy did make a difference in how I lived last week, but as time passes the “tyranny of the urgent” has already begun reasserting itself.

Today I found restoration of my intended priorities in words written roughly 2,700 years ago by Read more

Is Los Alamitos a good place to live? Well, I guess that depends on a number of variables. Income, employment, health, family relationships, all play important roles in the answer.

But all else being equal, I’d have to say the answer is Read more

(10/20/2011)  Chef Joe Youkhan’s “Tasting Spoon”  Truck has been added to tonight’s lineup, and he said he’d try  to have his legendary creme burlee on the menu, but I’m not finding it, maybe he’ll add it for dinner.

This week there’s also a Saturday “Food Truck Festival” planned from noon to 7 p.m. at Los Alamitos  High 10/22 with 15 trucks!   This is a benefit for the Los Al High Marching Band with a $5 admission, kids 5 and under free.

As usual, I’ll post the scheduled trucks for the next 2 weeks for the Thursday night “Picnic at the Plaza:”

(10/19/2011, Los Alamitos)Well the News Enterprise didn’t make it to my driveway until mid afternoon.  For the second week in a row I couldn’t find my letter about the trash judgement, but nobody else had their letters printed either, so I’m not taking it personally.  My previous letter didn’t print until four weeks after I submitted it, but it did eventually run.

On the positive side, today’s N-E includes an 8 page insert on this Sunday’s free Wings, Wheels, Rotors & Expo 2011, with a schedules of events & entertainment on pages 4 & 5 of the insert.  (For more info on WWRE you can check out the  O.
