(9/30/2011, Los Alamitos) The agenda and staff reports and attachments for Monday night’s 7 p.m. regular City Council Meeting is up, and it does contain a few interesting issues.

One I found especially interesting is Item 10A, a staff recommendation to give C.P.L.A. supporters Richard and Beverly Vardeman access to a city service road running to a pump station at 3610 Fenley Drive so they can resume parking their RV in their back yard.  This revisits a lengthy dispute between Read more

(9/29/2011, Los Alamitos) This just in via e-mail from Rebecca Lara of Rossmoor’s Predator Management Team:

Today, Thursday, September 29th at approximately 2:30 p.m. in the Sprouts parking lot, a Rossmoor Resident was robbed at gun point.

The female resident was placing her child in it’s car seat when a male Read more

(9/29/2011, Los Alamitos) by Highlands Guy:It seems like the city council and selected city employees spent a lot of time and energy over the past 2 years on the hospital issue. And I know that I’ve put forth some of the locals’ concerns in the past.

Funny we haven’t heard anything for a while, especially highlighted by the city council skipping a meeting since “there is not enough business.” I think a revisit of the subject is called for.

One of the things that brought it to mind, was what I see as I travel East on Katella from Los Alamitos Blvd. Sure seems like there are Read more

(Los Alamitos, 9/28/2011)  Interestingly, there’s no sign of Los Alamitos’ weekly Thursday “Picnic in the Plaza” on the City’s website.

But never fear, the event’s still on, & we’ve got your updated line-up for this week at least. (below)

The big news is that last Sunday our OC-based Lime Truck Read more

(9/26/26, Los Alamitos) Our President flies into LAX  this afternoon to go out to dinner tonight with a few hundred of his friends.  Three times.

Yup, our President apparently has everything so under control that he, like our City Council, can take some time off from the job we elected him to do.

Now that he’s got unemployment under control, achieved peace in the Middle East, has funds flowing uninterrupted to all those disaster victims, and has fixed our Credit Rating, who can blame him for taking some time off for Read more

(9/25/2011, Los Alamitos)   I just received word of a good sized coyote “patrolling” the streets of Suburbia Estates before 7 Sunday morning.

A man walking his attempted to stare down the coyote, who just stared back.
After taking his dog home the man returned with  a baseball bat, but the coyote, who had moved down the street, still held his ground.
The street was an Read more

(9/25/2011, Los Alamitos)It’s amazing how  relevant something written almost 2,000 years ago can be to life in 21st century America!  Read on, & I think you’ll see what I mean.

This past Thursday evening and Friday morning I happened to be reading through a brief letter Jesus’ half-brother James wrote around 40 – 50 A.D.  to several groups of Jewish Christians who had been scattered by persecution.  (Catholics believe the author was Jesus’ cousin.)

Here are a few excerpts, taken from Eugene Peterson”s “The Message” paraphrase/translation:

Prosperity is as short-lived as a wildflower, so don’t ever count on it. You know that as soon as the sun rises, pouring down its scorching heat, the flower withers. Its petals wilt and, before you know it, that beautiful face is a barren stem. Well, that’s a picture of the “prosperous life.” At the very moment everyone is looking on in admiration, it fades away to nothing.  (James 1:9-11)

Further on in his letter, James reiterates the uncertainty of life and the tentative nature of Read more

(9/23/2011, Los Alamitos)  First, the good news for the week of 9/11 – 16:

  • No robberies
  • No auto burglaries
  • No commercial burglaries
  • No shoplifting (at least none reported)
  • No Municipal code violations

But the we still had enough “rocket scientists,” both locals and from out of town, demonstrating their unique brand of intelligence to keep our men & women in black busy, including seven suspects who were rewarded with free rides to Los Al’s version of the “big house:”

  • Two 19 year old males who thought it would be fun to point an authentic-looking fake handgun at cars on the corner of Katella and Maple.  The bum from Lancaster  was arrested for an outstanding warrant, his buddy, a Los Al genius, was picked up for exhibiting Read more

(Los Alamitos, 9/22/2011) (Dave here:  This one’s well worth a read.  It gets better the further you go.  As always, your comments are appreciated) by Highlands guy So, they tell me Monday night’s city council meeting was cancelled because of a lack of business.

Come on guys, you’ve got to be kidding me.

I was inspired to vent by Dave’s comments of Sept 15.  They are insightful, give them a read . I guess since there is no business to discuss, things are perfect in the left Coast’s Mayberry.

(Los Alamitos, 9/21/2011) “Just the Facts” wants me to focus more on the positive, so here’s some things I liked about today’s News Enterprise:

**It had two staff-written articles about Los Alamitos High sports teams, including a front page below-the-fold report and photo on last week’s Varsity Football victory.

**It actually had a Read more
