(4/29/2010, Los Alamitos) After a 3 1/2 year hiatus, Coffee with Marilyn Poe is returning tomorrow morning, and you’re invited!

That’s right–YOU! According to Wednesday’s News Enterprise,  “Everyone and anyone is welcome to come and have a cup of coffee and Read more

(4/19/2010, Los Alamitos)  Once again we throw the reporting open to the community.  Since different people notice different things and since there is a very wide variety of views here in Los Alamitos, everyone can report what they thought was important at the meeting.

As we reported earlier (click for “Race money for pool, interim replacement for fired. . .), there are several very interesting Read more

(4/17/2010, Los Alamitos)  Several items of interest are on the agenda for Monday night’s 7 p.m. Los Alamitos City Council meeting.

These include the appointment of Terrence Beaman to serve as the city’s Interim Finance Director following the Council’s apparent firing of Nita McKay in closed session two weeks ago.  Mr Beaman will be paid at a rate of $70 per hour.  He previously served as Los Alamitos’ Read more

(Los Alamitos, April 5, 2010)  Tonight both Los Alamitos City Council meetings should be televised on Los Al TV3.  And, once again, this is your opportunity to be the reporter on what you observed, whether in person or on TV.

The 5:30 Special Meeting (click here for agenda with links to reports) focuses on additional budget cuts due to declines in income in the city’s budget for the current year (7/1/2009 – 6/30/2010).

The 7:00 Regular Meeting (click here for Regular Meeting agenda with links to reports) is fairly light, although it does include recommended approval of Mayor Poe and Mayor Pro Tem Stephens’ recommended weighting of criteria for evaluating the bids.  I suspect the matter will be approved routinely, although it appears that how much you and I pay for our weekly trash pick up is a very low priority to the Council–only given about 3% weight (click here for a more detailed explanation in my earlier post today).

Once again, it’s primarily up to you, the reader, to let the world know what you Read more

(Los Alamitos, 4/5/2010)If you live or work in Los Alamitos, the City Council could easily reduce your monthly trash bill for the next ten years.

They could just as easily increase your bill.

Whether your bill goes up or down will largely be determined by a Council vote tonight on the weighting of criteria for evaluating the seven proposals received for this decade’s Solid Waste Disposal Contract.

Unfortunately, as it now stands, the recommendations by the Council’s subcommittee of Mayor Poe and Mayor Pro Tem Stephens appear to Read more

(Los Alamitos, 4/4/2010)  Once again our City Council will have a 5:30 special meeting to focus on budget revisions prior to their Regular Meeting at 7 this Monday night.

The first meeting will again focus on staff proposals on how to make up a projected half million dollar deficit in the city’s 2009-2010 fiscal year budget.  Staff documents (see below) reveal several interesting facts, including a projected INCREASE in REVENUE generated by the Recreation Department that would more than c0ver the projected deficit in this year’s 4th of July fireworks!

The most interesting item on the agenda for the 7 p.m. Regular Meeting (see below) is the surprising recommendation by the ad hoc committee made up of Mayor Poe and Mayor Pro Tem Stephens to weight cost competitiveness a mere Read more

7:45 p.m. update:  I just got off the phone with our Police Department, and I’m happy to report that our prayers were answered and Logan was found safe and sound.  Apparently he simply decided to walk home on his own–a fair amount of initiative for a 7 year-old.  (I hope he sticks around & runs for City Council someday!)

I would, however, encourage you to read through the rest of the story as in it we identify by name and address the 5 registered sex offenders currently identified as living in Los Alamitos and Rossmoor on the state’s Megan’s Law web site:  1 in Rossmoor, 2 in Apartment Row, 1 in Old Town, and 1 in Battleship Row.

(Los Alamitos, 5 p.m., 4/1/2010)  Our police department has activated their emergency automated phone service to put out the word for local residents to keeep their eyes open for a missing seven year old boy.

The child was last seen in the vicinity of Los Al Blvd. and Katella, wearing a martial arts uniform and carrying a backpack.  I believe his name is Logan.

If you saw him, please call the Los Al P.D. at (562)594-7234.   Let’s hope and pray that Logan is soon found safe and sound at a friend’s home.

I just check the California Registered Sex Offender Site, for 90720, and it appears that we have Read more
